  1. This directory contains various documents (articles and reports) about the
  2. STONE project. 
  3.  
  4. All files are stored in PostScript compressed format. You must therefore set
  5. the transmission mode to binary before actually launching the transfer
  6. procedure with ftp. Example:
  7.  
  8.     ftp> binary
  9.     200 Type set to I.
  10.  
  11.     ftp> get STONE-A-Short-Overview.ps.Z
  12.     
  13. You can easily get a hardcopy of the uploaded documents if you have
  14. access to a PostScript printer. Do not forget first to uncompress the
  15. files. Example:
  16.  
  17.     local) uncompress STONE-A-Short-Overview.ps.Z
  18.     
  19.     ...the file is uncompressed...
  20.  
  21.     local) lpr -Pmyprinter STONE-A-Short-Overview.ps
  22.  
  23.     ...the PostScript file is printed on myprinter...
  24.  
  25. Notice that some reports are actually stored in sub-directories. This
  26. is notably the case when articles contain images that could not be
  27. directly embedded in the final PostScript file. For these documents,
  28. text and images have to be printed separately. The entire contents of
  29. these directories is stored in corresponding tar files. Such tar files
  30. must be transferred in binary mode and then extract as follows:

  32.     local) tar xvbf 256 ADocument.dir.tar
  33.  
  34. The directory old contains some older, obsolete literature on the STONE project.
